The Better Meta Checker - V1.0b
See how your meta data may look in a search engine
We created this simple tool so that when we create meta titles and meta descriptions, we know pretty much what they will look like in a search engine - we thought you may find it useful too. You can see more about why meta data is important below.
It's based on 61 characters for the title and 150 characters for the description. You may squeeze more but better safe that sorry!
NB. There seems to be no definitive answer as to how many characters you should use and being UK based we geared the tool towards Google.
How to use
Type in your chosen title and description and you will see how it may look. By clicking the tabs you can also see your result in a selection of search engines. There is also an option below to copy the relevant code for your web page.

Why do we need better meta tags?
The meta title of your web page is used as the display result in search engines and you meta description is often used as the description text underneath the search result.
With that in mind, not only does your meta data need to be descriptive, it also needs to act as an advert for your web page so that when your listing comes up, it stands out - effectively an advert strapline and teaser text.
