A little bit about the project

We've been working with Hill now for a good few years. Our 'first date' was their previous websites and it's led to more 'hot dates' in the shape and form of microsite projects for some of their (quite stunning) developments. They are, to all intents and purposes, a house builder... but with that little bit extra. They work in close partnership with suppliers and subcontractors, inspiring them in every which way possible to build 'amazing' communities.

So, when the opportunity presented itself to re-visit their websites, we jumped at the chance to 'build on'... ahem... their solid foundations.

Not content with just a re-skin of their existing sites, and understandably so, we set about the challenge of breaking with convention and using various design approaches to make the Hill websites reflect the groups 'different' approach to their business. We worked with a grid layout (as we always do) but used the structure in a more varied way, allowing the typography and the sections to overlap. We broke away from the traditional navigational structure of About Us, Our Developments etc and used words from their corporate values to set the tone, words such as Sustain, Lead, Partner and Invest. The use of the black and grey colours help the site feel strong, confident and aspirational. It also allowed the corporate orange to really zing (that's the technical word obviously). The content pages conform a little more to tradition, but what they do have is information by the bucket load... everything from floor plans, to images, to location maps... both sites really are the 'whole shebang'.

It's quite refreshing when we're encouraged to go a little 'off-piste'. To be fair, it's so often when we deliver our best results.
