Magazine Design - L&Q

- Client:
- L&Q
- Project:
- In-House magazine re-design
The brief
This magazine design project was part of a three-way pitch for an in-house staff publication for a large housing organisation. Any solution needed to be cost-effective over the long term and be practical in terms of production for the in-house editing team; for creating articles, and for production to put together the magazine content each quarter.
Our pitch
The pitch was won with our strategic view of the magazine as a piece of communication.
As well as exploring current trends in magazine design, we undertook research into the way people interact with magazines in general.
Moving this forward, we established a message and tone of voice of the magazine to begin to engage the personnel.
With such a large workforce, we also devised delivery mechanisms and demonstrated how three groups of employees may interact with the magazine.
The result
The final piece utilised elements of the brand of L&Q, holding back on some of the stronger colours to create a lighter feel. This created space and balance with the inevitable digital photography that would be used, which is notoriously dark.
An efficient and flexible layout was established to create a magazine style experience for the readership, with different size articles and read interaction.
As part of the project, we also established a desk stand to promote the magazine in prominent positions and a desktop "News Stand" style advertising board to promote up-coming issues.
My congratulations on the new-look Inhouse. It's tons better than it was both in look and editorially... I think the layout and style has increased readability dramatically... is beautifully divided by bullet points, drop quotes and pictures so that you want to read it all. I am sure you are getting lots of positive feedback. Well done you.
